The SoDA mission.
The Mission Statement Approach
In drafting our mission statement we had several objectives for this to be successful and stand the test of time. The first objective is that it had to be simple and measurable, in that its meanings are clear, not vague, and the success of the organization can be easily gauged against the mission itself. The second objective was to position SoDA as a diverse group of professionals within our respective field. The final objective was to establish a clear strategy supported by a few strong, succinct tactics that can cover all future SoDA initiatives.

The anatomy of the mission statement
The Society of Digital agencies (SoDA) is the worldwide voice of digital marketing professionals with a mission to advance the profession through best practices, education, and advocacy.

This positions us as a larger group representing digital marketing professionals all over the world. The Internet and our profession is truly global and the organization needs to reflect this. We used the word “voice” because this positions SoDA as a platform for its members, not a self-serving bureaucracy.

This establishes our organization as representing a recognized profession of individuals, agencies, and client companies- anyone or any organization that practices digital communications.

This is our objective. Pretty simple. Any tactical action we may take can and should be measured against this phrase.

If “advancing the profession” is our strategy, then “best practices” is the first tactic towards achieving our goal. This represents an inclusive set of common guidelines, methodologies, working standards, etc. and that as “best practices” imply that these are commonly reviewed, updated, and used by our peers.

Our second tactic is to educate our members, our clients, our staff, associated vendors, and future professionals in our field. We will do this through our own communications platforms, such as our website, email lists, social networks and events as well as through partnerships and cooperative knowledge exchange with educational institutions that help to train professionals in our field.
