The idea for SoDA literally started over a few drinks in South Beach Miami in March of 2007. A number of CEO’s from recognized digital agencies had known, spoke or met each other over the last 10-15 years and agreed to meet in Miami to discuss the industry as a whole and at a minimum, have a good time. There was no agenda and no expected results. During “spirited” discussion on the state of the interactive industry, we discovered that we experienced similar business problems: not having any industry recognized best practices, a shortage of qualified, educated staff to meet the demand of new business, and to boot, their was no independent organization that represented this decade-old industry. At the end of our meetings in Miami we agreed to think about what we had discussed and to meet again in a few months to see if, time permitting, we still felt strongly about addressing the business issues that affected the interactive business, and collectively were up for the task before us. After the follow-up meeting in New York, the idea for SoDA was consummated. From that meeting and subsequent meetings the mission of SoDA was formed: The Society of Digital agencies (SoDA) is the worldwide voice of digital marketing professionals with a mission to advance the industry through best practices, education, and advocacy. On March 9, 2008 the Society of Digital Agencies (SoDA) was formally announced at SXSW in Austin, Texas. The founding firms include AgencyNet, Big Spaceship, Domani Studios, Exopolis, Firstborn, iChameleon, IQ Interactive, Juxt Interactive, MindComet, Odopod, Schematic, Struck Design, and WDDG. One year later, a second round of members joined the association: 360i, Blitz, GrupoW, Lightmaker, and WhittmanHart. What is Adobe’s relationship? Adobe is SoDA's inaugural launch sponsor. They have committed to help SoDA's mission by providing advisory expertise, guidance and resources. SoDA will be Adobe’s a point of contact within the industry, providing feedback on initiatives and case studies. Is SoDA open for other sponsors?
