For those of you who were unable to join us this year at SXSW, you missed a great event. SXSW Interactive, as well as music and film, provides a unique mix of sessions paired with great after hours venues and mixers (and lots of BBQ and Tex-Mex). SoDA secured a restaurant/bar Roy’s, across from the convention center for 3 days as our SoDA at SXSW headquarters. It turned out to be a fantastic venue to eat, drink, catch up, work, and hold conferences and network mixers.
SoDA held our SXSW Digerati Mixer and unConferences as well as engaging member-only events. The theme this year was, “Digital is already leading. Are Digital agencies ready to lead?” At times, the unConference format lead to very “spirited” conversation between the roles of legacy (traditional) and digital marketing. The second session focused the conversation on what each group, Legacy and Digital, can do best. Bradley Gross, SoDA’s Creative and Technology legal advisor, lead two intriguing sessions on writing “conversational” Master Service Agreements. Bradley illustrated how these typically boring legal documents, written conversationally, can be clearly read by anyone and not only better protect you, but can also help your business differentiate itself from the competition. Bradley also spoke on the evolving law and legal pitfalls of developing mobile campaigns.
The SoDA Digerati Mixer (close to 300 people) and unConferences (over 200 people), as well as member events were sold out a month ahead. And for the people who were able to attend, it was engaging, informative, and we had a lot of fun. So what was it like?
Alexander Rea, Interactive Producer- “32 mins into the SoDA unConference tempers flare up on the topic of traditional vs digital agency leadership“
Tom Siebert, HUGE- …”the unConference sessions I attended were smart, feisty and memorable…”
Beck, President of Enlighten- “In reality, I found the SoDA interactions to be more productive (and fun) than the sessions at SxSW.”
Brian Chiger, Digital Strategist for AgencyNet- “You won’t find this level of collected insight and experience in any textbook today — but these are the guys who will write the next one.”
Jeff Brecker, SVP Creative Director at Leo Burnett- Still talking about the convo from Saturday“
Jones, CJRW Interactive CD/Strategist- “Thanks SoDA. The SoDA unConference has made this trip worthwhile. That knowledge can’t be bought.“
Miemo Penttinen, Frantic- “Interesting to hear that the situation, problems & opportunities are very similar here in States as back home in Finland.“
Richard Gallagher, Engine Digital: “Clients rejoice, learning how to make our MSAs conversational. You won’t need to go to law school anymore to follow along.“
Andrew Howlett. Rain- “Great follow up session for SoDA Unconference, not as fiery as the first one, but great!“
Compared to last year we were able to have a bigger impact on the event, industry, and for the organization because of the generous support of our three event sponsors; Transpond, Pyramid Consulting and Datapipe.
And special thanks to our speaker on writing conversational MSA’s, Bradley Gross. Additional information about each is listed below.
Also thanks to our organization sponsor, Adobe, for enabling SoDA to achieve its mission: The Society of Digital Agencies (SoDA) serves as a voice for digital marketing professionals worldwide with a mission to advance the industry through Best Practices, Education, and Advocacy.
Thanks again to all our members and supporters who participated this year, we’re already looking forward to a bigger and better SXSW 2011!
